• Any advice out there on the placement and attachment methods for shoot through hull transducers? I have a new (small Lorance) depth finder and the proper transducer but I am really having a tough time with where I need to put the transducer and how to glue the darn thing down.
  • This is interesting because the hulls were cored with balsa before 2000 and I was under the impression that the shoot through transducers would not work with any cored hull. If you find you need the thru hull type of transducer I recommend the Airmar tilted element transducers that avoid anything sticking out of the hull to get damaged on lifts.
  • Fill the hull with enough water to submerge the transducer body. Use a sand filled bag or other heavy object to hold the transducer in position. The transducer cannot transmit through air. The water purges any air from between the transducer and the hull and fills any voids in the coarse fiberglass surface.
  • Jul 22, 2005 · There are many things to consider. First, you ideally want the transducer to be pointing straight down to give you the most accurate picture of what's down there. If you glue it to the inside of the hull you have to make sure that there are no air pockets between it and the hull, and that is assuming that the place you mount it is free of air ...
  • Mar 22, 2014 · I use a tip up transducer bracket that clamps to the transom on my 14' Sea Nymph. This way it is portable and I can use it on rentals when required. I also had a severe storm come up and turned my boat sideways one time. If the transducer were fixed, it would have been damaged. I also store my boat outside and flip it over in the off season.
if you mean a transducer that shoots thru the hull then modern foam core boats usually have a cutout in the engine area. it wont shoot thru foam. if you have a solid glass core then just get some 5 minute epoxy glue. lightly sand the tranducer surface rough up the glass where you are going to install and glue the sucker down. take care to have no air bubbles trapped in the glue. Humminbird XP 14 HW Product # 710286-1 The Humminbird XP 14 HW is an in-hull transducer designed to glue-in inside single layer fiberglass hulls. It supports Dual Spectrum CHIRP 2D Sonar technology that produces a high-frequency beam in a wide cone angle. The mounting on the 2015 or later TI puts the transducer in the water and its all set up for that transducer (I think). I have an older Lowrance model 4 something or other with maybe a similar transducer, never have any depth reading issue (the peak speed reading is however completely out of whack). 1.
